- I am blessed to live where my grandfather homesteaded, to have three beautiful daughters who are my best friends, to have six delightful grandchildren who live nearby, to be married to my sweetheart of 35 years and to thrill to the special magic of creating my own works of art. I'll never cease to thrill to witnessing new ideas and images come to life from the point of a pencil or splash of a brush. I am blessed.

I've blocked in the butterfly only to realize that I've been using a different color of paint from my usual pallette. I never used black and usually reach for a color called Payne's Gray which is black mixed with Ultramarine Blue or a dark, dark violet. I mistakenly grabbed a bottle of Mars Black which really changed the look of this piece. As a result of my color mistake, I decided to abandon the idea of a really dark, black butterfly since it would not be as bright when seen driving down the street at 35 miles an hour.

THE FIRST DAY
The Wild Horse Gallery is once again inviting local artists to create streetlight banners for mainstreet to promote the upcoming Sunflower Festival. This year's banners are about 2/3 the size of last years. Here is my first day of working on my banner. I started by painting the area brown and then arranged some yellow cone flowers around a butterfly. I am thinking of creating a black butterfly which is the official, Oklahoma state butterfly. It's been a long time since I've had time to work on my easel and it feels so good to back at it.
